GoHighLevel Email Verification: 7 Easy Setup Steps

A new lead enters your CRM, and your welcome email is ready to send. But is the address usable, and what should your workflow do if it is not?

GoHighLevel email verification helps assess recipient email quality before sending. The useful part is connecting the result to a clear next action, rather than treating every contact as ready for the same sequence.

This guide covers seven practical setup steps, including provider settings, contact checks, workflow routing, and a controlled test before launch.

What Is GoHighLevel Email Verification?

GoHighLevel email verification assesses whether a recipient address appears suitable for sending. It can help you identify poor-quality addresses before an email action runs.

Treat the result as information for your sending process. It does not establish that the person requested your messages, and it does not guarantee inbox placement.

For example, a contact may have a usable address but have opted out of marketing. Another may want your message but have entered their address incorrectly. Those situations need different responses.

Before building automation, define what you want to happen when an address passes, fails, or needs further review.

1. Identify Which Verification You Need

GoHighLevel email verification can be confused with verifying your campaign’s From address.

Recipient verification checks the address you plan to send to. Sender verification confirms control of an address used to send a campaign.

For an unverified campaign sender, HighLevel documents Verify Now, followed by a six-digit code delivered to that sender’s inbox. Its documentation also lists cases where that OTP step is unnecessary because the sender is already trusted.

See the campaign sender verification guide.

Start by reading the exact message in your account:

What you seeWhat to investigate
A campaign asks to verify its From addressSender address verification
A contact’s address is unverified or invalidRecipient verification
A message fails after sendingDelivery details and the specific error
A contact opted outCommunication preferences

Record the issue before changing settings. Verifying a campaign sender does not, by itself, check every recipient.

2. Check Provider Support and Enablement

HighLevel documents its native recipient verification service for LC Email and Mailgun. It is a paid service, so review the applicable billing setup before enabling it.

For sub-account settings, go to Settings → Business Profile → General and review Verify Email.

Agency admins can manage verification through Agency Settings → Email Services → Location Settings, using the Email Verification control for the relevant sub-account.

Use the official enablement and billing guide for your setup.

When configuring GoHighLevel email verification, check the specific sub-account you intend to use. Avoid applying a bulk setting to unrelated accounts during a small implementation.

Write down the provider, current setting, and intended scope. This gives you a clear reference when another administrator reviews the configuration.

3. Review the Contact’s Email and Status

Open a contact, expand the Contact details section, and inspect the Email field. HighLevel documents Not Verified, Invalid, and Verified status labels there.

Its enablement guide also describes checking or triggering verification from the contact details page.

Record the actual status you see rather than inferring it from the existence of an email address.

For a Mailgun-specific setup, HighLevel also documents an envelope indicator with an explanatory error for certain blocked or invalid states. Read that explanation instead of relying only on the icon’s color.

See the Mailgun verification guide.

For your setup notes, capture:

  • The address currently stored.
  • The visible verification result.
  • Whether verification has been excluded for that contact.
  • The current email communication preference.
  • Any relevant error or recent address correction.

A screenshot can help your team, but avoid storing unnecessary contact information in shared testing notes.

4. Add GoHighLevel Email Verification Before Email Actions

Open Automation → Workflows, select your workflow, and add the Email Verification action before the relevant Send Email step.

HighLevel’s workflow guide says verification must be enabled and the contact must not be excluded from verification. An excluded contact’s verification action is skipped.

Add an If/Else action afterward when you want the result to control the next route. HighLevel documents verification-based conditions such as isEmailVerified; choose the supported condition from your editor.

Read the Email Verification workflow action guide.

Keep the first version small. One verification action, one decision point, and clearly named outcomes are easier to review than a large sequence.

Do not assume that adding the action automatically gives every result the handling you intended. Review the steps after it.

5. Configure the Decision Branches

Plan your GoHighLevel email verification routes before adding more messages.

HighLevel’s If/Else action evaluates configured conditions and sends contacts down a matching branch. Contacts that match none of the configured branches use the fallback route.

Check the field, operator, value, and any AND/OR grouping. See the official If/Else action guide.

Here is an illustrative routing policy:

ObservationSuggested handling
Verification passes and other sending checks are satisfiedContinue toward the intended email
Verification failsKeep out of the email-send path and review the record
Result is missing or uncertainUse a review route rather than assuming a pass
Contact has opted outPreserve the applicable preference

These are design choices, not guaranteed automatic branches or exact result labels in every screen.

Give each branch a useful name, such as “Passed — Continue” or “Needs Review.” Check the fallback carefully: an unhandled result should not accidentally reach the same email action.

Verification and communication preference remain separate checks. HighLevel supports channel-specific DND; review the contact’s applicable Email DND when designing the send path.

For that part of the process, read our previous guide: GoHighLevel Email Unsubscribe: 7 Easy Setup Checks.

6. Review Imported-List Risk Separately

If your process includes imported lists, distinguish GoHighLevel email verification for individual contacts from the LC Email Risk Assessment report.

HighLevel documents that report under Settings → Email Services → Risk Assessment. It can summarize imported-list outcomes such as deliverable, undeliverable, catch-all, and unknown, along with risk information.

Its bulk risk-assessment feature is documented for LC Email. Do not assume the same report is available for every provider.

Review the official Email Risk Assessment guide.

Use the report to organize a review, rather than treating every imported address as ready for a campaign.

Keep uncertain records in a review group while you investigate. An unknown result does not give you the same evidence as a completed positive check.

Record which import you reviewed, when you reviewed it, and how each category will be handled.

7. Test GoHighLevel Email Verification Before Launch

Use test contacts and inboxes you control. Start with a controlled workflow route whose actions are easy to inspect.

Record the contact’s starting email status and expected route. Then run the intended entry event and review the workflow’s execution.

Check that:

  1. The contact reaches verification before the email action.
  2. The verification step completes or shows a clearly understood result.
  3. The next condition evaluates as intended.
  4. The contact follows the expected branch.
  5. Any review tag or internal action appears correctly.
  6. A permitted email reaches your test inbox.

For a failed or uncertain result already available in a record you are authorized to review, test the no-send branch without attempting an email to an unrelated address.

Use this test log:

ScenarioExpected behaviorEvidence to record
Positive verification resultCorrect permitted routeResult and branch
Failed verification resultNo marketing email from that pathExecution details
Missing or uncertain resultReview handlingFallback branch
Contact excluded from verificationSkipped check is handled deliberatelyStep result
Email preference blocks marketingPreference remains respectedContact status and send result

These are test cases, not a claim that your account has already passed them.

If you change the workflow after testing, repeat the affected scenario before expanding to a larger audience.

GoHighLevel Email Verification Not Working? Check These Points

The Verification Action Is Skipped

Check sub-account enablement and whether the contact is excluded from verification. Review the action result before changing the rest of the workflow.

Verification Runs After the Email

Move the check and its decision logic before the relevant sending step, then test the revised journey with a fresh controlled event.

A Contact Takes the Wrong Branch

Compare the actual verification result with the condition’s field, operator, and value. Inspect the fallback route and any additional grouped rules.

The Email Is Verified but Delivery Fails

Verification does not guarantee that a later send will succeed. Inspect the delivery error and investigate the sender setup, recipient server response, and other relevant sending factors.

A Campaign Requests a Verification Code

Check whether the prompt concerns the From address. That is a different task from checking recipient addresses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GoHighLevel Email Verification Free?

HighLevel documents recipient verification as a paid service. Check the current pricing and billing arrangements for your provider and account.

Does a Verified Address Guarantee Inbox Placement?

No. Verification is one check in the sending process. Review delivery and inbox-placement issues separately.

Does Verification Restore an Unsubscribed Contact?

Do not use a positive verification result as a reason to clear an unsubscribe preference. Address quality and the contact’s communication choice answer different questions.

Should I Delete Every Uncertain Contact?

Create a review process first. A record may still contain useful business history even when its email needs correction or further checking.

Build a Clear Verification Process

A useful GoHighLevel email verification setup connects the check to a deliberate next step.

Confirm provider support, inspect the contact status, place verification before sending, and test both the permitted and review routes.

Keep the workflow small enough to understand, then expand it when the observed results match your plan.
